Lansing — Michigan is one of the three states that have lost the most manufacturing jobs since Jan. 1, 2019, the day Gov. Gretchen Whitmer took office, a fact that will loom over her upcoming efforts to debate tariffs and propose her own ideas for bringing factories back to the United States.

Whitmer is scheduled to speak Wednesday in Washington, D.C., where the Democratic governor’s office says she will lay out a plan to “build America’s manufacturing might and protect our national defense.”
